In light of recent developments in Libya, one wonders how long it will be before we begin to hear the word "quagmire."
John McCain in reacting to the President's speech warns about what happened after the no-fly zone in Iraq was imposed. While I disagree with the rationale set forth by McCain, he is quite right in alerting the U.S. to the limitations and dangers of imposing no-fly zones with the hope of driving out a nations leader but without the desire to use force to do so. Again, I disagree in most cases with the need to drive leaders out of power by force, though certainly this was done in both Germany and Italy in World War II.
No one has a crystal ball, but clearly there are vast dangers.
