What the Press Won't Tell You: Hillary Clinton Won

Note to oligarchs:  We only accept it and move on if it was true.

The press and media have accepted their own announcement that Trump won.  Yet exit polls -- based on actual votes, not predicted votes -- tell a very different story.  The article linked to below gives actual exit poll numbers.

People in other parts of the world have asked me:  How could this happen?  As in 2000, the American people were duped into accepting the popular vote loser as President through a combination of circumstances, including:  1) widespread vote suppression of a new and sophisticated kind;  2) the Electoral College;  3) a credulous media who believed the numbers supplied by the Republican Secretaries of State; and 4) premature acceptance of the media's announced results by the so-called loser.

There is a fifth reason stemming from reason number 1 above.  That is, America in the past has been proud of what it came to regard as a long string of clean elections.  This belief was not wholly justified, but it was close enough to the truth that it became part of the American credo.

The results we are seeing in Washington now, then, flow from a corrupt election.  Many more facts can be given.  In coming days I plan to keep the facts coming.

Exit Polls Show Win By Clinton

N.B.  More reasons can be given for Debacle 20016.  Donald Trump is an illegitimate President, not elected by the people, but rather shoe-horned into office by treacherous oligarchs.

Days of Turmoil

In these days of turmoil in Washington it is important not to lose heart.  I'll be writing more later.  For now, I recommend the various columns and editorials in the Sunday Review section of yesterday's New York Times.  There is not a complete explanation there of our leader's psychiatric state.  There are, however, good explanations of what we the people need to consider now.

We need to be as clear as possible now about just what it is we are dealing with.  As I find articles of use, I will pass them along here.

The Media Begin to Change

The story of the relationship between D. Trump and the media is somewhat complicated.  As will be remembered certain institutions such as The New York Times  and The Washington Post did their best to tell the truth about this dangerous man.

Now, CNN is joining the retreat to reality in calling out the Administration for its assertion that the media is now the opposition "party."  So -- if the media is going to stiffen their collective spine I will support them.  If the media has decided to "un-normalize" Trump, then I say it is time to stand behind the media and the concept of a free and open press.

Media Wakes Up to New Reality

Facts indicate Trump was the beneficiary of huge vote-suppression efforts in Election 2016 and for this reason alone is not the legitimate victor.

The Hardest Thing

The most difficult thing right now in one sense is simply to hang on to the idea that Donald Trump and those who pushed him forward (because there were such people) stole Election 2016.  People of middle age and older seemingly simply cannot imagine such a thing happening in the United States.  Young people perhaps have not such a strong preconception.

But steal it he did.  All the evidence points to a heist of huge proportions.  However, as Greg Palast has said, the wealthy cannot steal all the votes all the time.  And herein is our hope:  if the total numbers of votes can be increased in state and local elections we can at least impact the gerrymandering which has been going on.  This will make a big difference in future elections, as Republicans may no longer have a lopsided advantage before even the first vote is cast.

Let us be about this exciting and useful business.

Changing Times

Briefly --

With the advent of a new far-right administration in the U.S. this blog must perforce change and adapt.  I will not be adjusting, or departing from long-time high standards of truth and the pursuit of justice and kindness for the down-trodden.  But with racist sympathizers now occupying offices in the White House, and a far-right political and economic agenda being foisted upon the American people, I must be cognizant of changed circumstances.

Just how I will be changing is not completely worked out.  I do know I will continue to advocate for traditional American and even Judeo-Christian values, while seeking to protect the rights of all under the Constitution.  Toward these ends I seek the input of readers here.

How can you help?  I invite you to participate in my survey, if you have not already done so.  This survey seeks to get a sense of what others think is an appropriate set of priorities for citizens (both American and world), and policy-makers at this time.  Information about how to participate is on the right side bar.

This is indeed a most critical time in U.S. and world history.  Lives are at stake for some and quality of life for all.  Your thoughtful contribution will be appreciated.

Millions Protest Trump Worldwide

People of All Backgrounds March in Support of Human Rights

TMP is pleasantly overwhelmed with the size of yesterday's protests on behalf of human rights, and against the type of campaign run last year by the new occupant of the White House.  Having worked today, it is taking some time to go through the long list of marches and protests all around the world.  The march in Washington is reported to have been significantly larger than the inaugural crowd.

This is a most welcome surprise.  The United States is not complacent, not shrouded in cynicism, or paralyzed by fear.  Of course, a continual watchfulness must be adopted to guard against a propaganda wave from the White House, a wave which has already arisen.

But whatever else may be gleaned from the news about yesterday, it is clear there is something deeper under way in America -- something far more significant than bombast, braggadocio, and ballyhoo.

#TrumpStoleIt

**************************

Last evening, I watched the online showing of Greg Palast's startling film, "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy," in its up-dated form with new footage post-election.

The film is terrific, amazing.

The film was to be left up on Facebook Live for a day or two.  I encourage you to search for it at:

Fascism in America: a Watchlist

Can Americans Come Together?
Translation of French title:  "All together for a single victory"

This is the crucial question as we prepare to face an Administration which was forced on the country by very wealthy, dark (as in hidden), and powerful forces.  (See previous posts for details.)

Writers here in the U.S. are beginning to point the way to a new, more united America.  This is very hopeful, if initially daunting.

I have been reading the book D-Day by Stephen Ambrose.  The kind of coordination which was required not only between the various U.S. armed services, but between nations was truly awe-inspiring, and not easily accomplished.  Yet accomplished it most certainly was.

Will the Trump Administration Be Stillborn?

Will Trump Be Able to Survive as President-Apparent Another Week?

CONCERNS MOUNTING FROM ALL SIDES

Opposition to a Trump Presidency continues to build at this time.  There has been a certain escalation in the seriousness of criticisms and concerns expressed.  From worries about his Russian ties to outright opposition to his policies expressed by Cabinet nominees, the Trump Administration appears headed toward paralysis even before inauguration day.

And yesterday came news of a major new investigation to be launched into the actions of F. B. I. Director Comey in the days immediately before the election.  This on top of major reports from intelligence agencies on the effects of Russian interference in the election.

Increasing numbers of people are learning of concerns about the validity of the election.  No President can hope to have the backing of the American people under such a cloud.  I could go on and on about all this.  For instance, Trump's approval ratings are said to be the lowest of any "president-elect" in at least several decades.

The only President to resign -- so far
Now, we the people have before us a serious recommendation that a new election be held.  No matter how difficult this may be, it must be worked for says the author, a professor at American University.  (See link below.)

America is grappling with this issue in typical round-about fashion.  Although not ideal, it is understandable given all the confusion surrounding our current clouded situation.  Yet I feel more hopeful suddenly.  It is clear with the views being expressed by Cabinet nominees -- although their credibility certainly can be questioned -- that concerns about a Trumpist country are not going away, not soon, and (actually) not ever.

Yesterday's Post

Generating Considerable Interest

Readers are evidently very interested in yesterday's post about the likelihood of Trump getting into major political difficulty in the near future.  Of course I leave it to readers to make up their own minds how high this likelihood is.

Yet with Trump already possibly violating the law by appointing a family member to his in-coming staff, concerns are mounting.

All this could be avoided if the press reported honestly on the voter suppression which occurred in last year's election.  The worst activities were conducted by Republican operatives, though there was evidently foul play in at least one Democratic primary as well.

We can and must demand a better press and media in this country.

In the meantime, you are invited to participate in my new survey.  Information is at the top of the sidebar to the right.  A good response will be quite helpful to this blog.

Up-dated: Resignation By, or Impeachment Of, Trump Called Likely

Nixon Resigns
Up-dated 4:35 p.m.

Second up-date with new comment and link,  January 18

We had Nixon, then there was the "new" Nixon.  Then we had the "new" new Nixon.  Finally, we had no Nixon.

Instead of adding on a third "new," I'll call Trump, the Next Nixon.  There had already been estimations from political observers, including David Brooks of The New York Times, that D. Trump will "probably" face either forced resignation or impeachment in the next year.

Now comes a call that cabinet members be asked in confirmation hearings whether they would uphold the 25th amendment which calls on cabinet members to enforce the removal of the President should he become incapacitated or otherwise unable to carry out his office duties.

These statements are welcome, indeed they are a breath of fresh air.  However, far better for the major media  to report on the stolen election.  For not only did the people vote convincingly for Hillary Clinton, she also won the Electoral College as well.  (For more on this matter, see posts on Greg Palast elsewhere on this blog.)

Cabinet Nominees Should Be Asked Whether They Will Uphold the 25th Amendment

Media Must Report on The Stolen Election of 2016.  More Coming Soon

Monday, January 09, 2017

Inasmuch as we believe here at this blog that the election of 2016 was stolen for Donald Trump and Republicans, the headlines from much of the press seem irrelevant.

This presents a dilemma for me as I seek to adhere to the truth.  For to engage in  the machinations of a Trump cabinet nomination process while denying the very legitimacy of any Trump presidency invites craziness.

Profit System on Trial

The question we must ask is what kind of system gave us a Donald Trump in the first place.  It is correct to hold Trump accountable for his actions.  But just how and why did he come to the fore?

Is not Trump a product of the profit system?  Was he not a profit-seeker par excellence?  And did not the wealthy purveyors and protectors of the profit system ease the way for him in the period 2012-2016 and before?

Media's Role in Stolen Election of 2016

The Stolen Election of 2016

In none of the various Year End Reviews I saw in December was there any mention of the stolen election of 2016.  This should be a cause for consternation.

Yesterday's New York Times rather bravely published articles expressing regret for the various "sins" of the media in the campaign leading up to the 2016 election. These sins of omission, and commission were mighty indeed.  Ironically, The Times happened to be one of the media sources doing true, credible journalism on both Trump and his campaign.

Shockingly, The Times reported on a study which found that the television evening newscasts devoted a total of only thirty-six minutes to true issue reporting!  This was down from over three hours in 2012 -- still a shockingly low figure.  But thirty-six minutes?!

Obviously, this is outrageous.  The Times goes on to characterize media in 2015-16 as being more or less an amplification system for Trump.  Admittedly, this included negative "coverage."  But Trump was very skillful in turning negative coverage into a benefit.

Thus, the media has been complicit in giving us the incredible -- a nascent Donald Trump Presidency.  Please stop and think about that for a moment.  Donald Trump -- Donald Trump -- President of the United States?  Scotty, beam me up.

http://www.gregpalast.com/

N.B.   "Scotty, beam me up," has become a trite phrase.  Yet it is the best one I can think of to describe this alternate planet or universe we seem to be living in.  It doesn't have to be.
