What is happening in Wisconsin now has its antecedent in the 19th Century Grange movement and kindred movements of protest and solidarity. Anti-unionists thought Wisconsinites would fail to stand up for state workers. In this they were sorely mistaken, for Wisconsin workers of every political stripe have rallied to the defense of state workers. They realize that if union rights for state workers end, rights for all workers are in serious danger.
